‘The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Marine Science (ATSIMS) Program is an outreach initiative providing First Nations Year 10 students in North Queensland with opportunities to engage in marine science and marine management, citizen science, and the stewardship of Sea Country.’
Enjoy the visuals captured over a six-year journey documenting this heart-felt program on Goolbbodi / Orpheus Island on the Gret Barrier Reef. We document students, staff, rangers and Elders who all come together to learn how traditional ecological knowledge and modern science aim for a comprehensive approach to understanding Sea Country. We film, produce and star in funny, educational videos together and create beautiful works of art, from photographs to sculptures made from beach clean-up plastics.
